Getting rich by giving something for free sounds like an insane idea. However it is possible and it is done as you read this article. Below are just a few ideas on making money by sharing your e-book with the readers and asking for (almost) nothing in return.

      1. Earning affiliate revenue

Imagine this: You wrote an e-book about fitness and bodybuilding. Chances are that people who are keen on reading it are the type of people who exercise regularly or at least have visited a gym or two in their lifetime. They came to read your book either because they are already interested in your business and signed up to your newsletter (and hence got the e-book you wrote for free) or simply because they came across it looking for something online – maybe they wanted to buy fitness gear or they were in the need of new exercises to spruce up their routine at the gym.

Chances are that if your free e-book recommends a certain gym equipment brand and offers the readers an affiliate code, you will earn some dollars from each payment.

  1. Upselling your work

Another idea that might come across as useful in earning money from e-books is upselling the reader. One way to do this is by creating an e-book which only covers the basics of a topic that the reader is interested in and offer a full course on the topic once the reader is interested in what you have to say. Basically, you are creating the feeling of desire for more that can only lead the reader to purchasing your product, making the free e-book nothing else but an ad for your regularly priced e-course on fitness and bodybuilding (I’m just keeping up with the example given above,  the topic can be anything your business is focused around).

  1. Promoting your newsletter

Giving a free e-book to anyone who has signed up for your newsletter can be a great way to earn money online. But you can earn money by doing things the other way round – by leading your readers to sign up for your newsletter. That way you are increasing traffic on your website and therefore promoting your business by increasing your chances of selling more.

The most important thing to remember is that an e-book doesn’t just have to be a creative outlet, but it can as well be an important marketing tool and help you increase the revenues generated by your website.
